Mikayla S Pritchett: The Future Master Class Today (FMCT) Generation Z member

Mikayla is a 2020 High School Graduate who currently attends Harrisburg Area Community College. Her major is Psychology, and she plans to complete her undergrad experience at Shippensburg University. Alongside her educational adventure, she is a Retail Professional at Sheetz, Inc.

She is a member of the first graduating class whose commencement ceremony was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the strained restrictions during that time, School Districts had to create a new way to celebrate their graduates without having a large gathering.

It was unfair that her class could not experience a traditional commencement ceremony. It sucked! No celebration parties, hugs, tears together in the moment, and so many other activities could not happen during and following graduation. They were pressured to ingest this pill, dig in, and move forward. Making this conscious decision just shows what they are made of; who they are; and how they are equipped with the necessary intelligence and skills to confront and tackle this new normal/landscape.

Though there were reluctant moments to think up, Mikayla understood her role and kept her keep it moving posture…ALIVE. One of many things she actively contributes to support this theme is her gift of Giving. Today, you will hear her heart where Giving is concerned, via the following questions:

What does it mean to be a Giver?

It is a big responsibility that I take seriously. I take the necessary time to think about others as I think about myself. I know how I practice appreciating who I am, what I do, and more. Alongside this mindset, I give myself things that complement how I think about me. Things of value like paying for my tuition-education focus, technology- entertainment needs/wants/likes focus, clothes-fashion forward focus, and so much more. You see, I am the first partaker of being a giver. It empowers me to be empathetic to others when I give to them.

I take the time to listen to them intently to hear how they think about themselves and what things they enjoy to support their mindset. Once I understand this key piece, I know how to give to them. Sometimes, it’s not tangible. It may be giving my ear to listen to them as they share. Other times, it is something simple like a Get-Well card when they are feeling down. The scale is different, but my motive is the same.

One of the amazing things about giving is the set-up opportunities I receive as a result. At work, I am known for being a solid team member. My attendance is strong, and my work ethic is laudable. My manager can count on me. From time to time, they will ask me to work when I am off the schedule. Thus, giving me more hours and emotional coins to consider me for other opportunities should they arise. This is one of many benefits that I have experienced from being a consistent giver.

Where has your Giving made a difference?

I feel my giving always makes an impact. This is a joy for me. Giving through listening intently to people to understand how I can help them in some way is a big deal. In these moments, I realize that I may not always have what they need but will do my best to refer them to someone who can give assistance.

When any of my friends are feeling alone and they share their reason with me. My heart gets heavy for them, and I go out of my way to give them something thoughtful that will hopefully bring joy to them. A card, a visit, a phone call, to name a few. Typically, it/they work. They feel uplifted and appreciated again. Their facial expression changes and makes me feel happy that they are no longer feeling alone.

This ends the questions and responses from Mikayla.

Are you a giver? If yes, keep giving. If no, please start. You will not regret your decision. To help you, use Mikayla’s Giving Tips- may they enlarge your capacity to Give:

· Give to yourself. Be the first partaker

· Give to others like you give to yourself

· Listen intently to others, so you know how to give to them

· Give with meaning and thought

· Be a cheerful giver

Mikayla S Pritchett, a Generation Z FMCT member, is a cheerful/effective Giver now. She has the baton running and winning in her race today. The Future looks Brighter.
